Types of COVID-19 Proteins

Spike Protein

The spike protein (S-protein) is a structural, transmembrane protein that is displayed on the surface of the viral particle.

Spike Protein Variants

SARS-CoV-2 variants have mutations within the gene encoding for the Spike (S) protein, which facilitates viral entry by binding to host receptors.

Nucleocapsid Protein

The nucleocapsid protein (N-protein) is a structural protein that binds to the coronavirus RNA genome.

Membrane Protein

The membrane protein (M-protein) is the most abundant structural protein of SARS-CoV-2.

Recombinant SARS, MERS, and HKU1 coronavirus proteins.

Thrombosis Proteins

Inflammation associated with COVID-19 can lead to a type of thrombosis called "disseminated intravascular coagulopathy" (DIC).

Host Receptors

ACE2 is an endogenous receptor that is required for SARS-CoV-2 viral entry. Other host receptors, NRP1, AXL, CD147, GRP-78 also assist.
