Target Background
Albumin is a 66.5 kDa globular plasma protein synthesized by the liver and rapidly excreted into the bloodstream. The main function of albumin is to regulate the osmotic pressure of blood. A patient's liver function can be measured by checking their serum albumin levels. Albumin levels can be affected by a poor nutritional state or liver/kidney dysfunction. Low albumin levels can be a sign of liver or kidney disease.
