Description
β-amyloid protein (Aβ or Abeta) is a series of protein peptides formed by the cleavage of amyloid precursor protein (APP) by β- and γ- secretases, and is believed to be associated with the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Beta Amyloid (1-40) (Amyloid beta 40 or Abeta 40) together with beta Amyloid (1-42) (Amyloid beta 42 or Abeta 42) are two major C-terminal variants of the amyloid beta protein, constituting the majority of amyloid beta proteins. Both the Amyloid beta 40 and Amyloid beta 42 alloforms are major components of the extracellular plaques found in Alzheimer's disease brain tissue. Evidence suggests that beta amyloid protein 42 plasma levels are associated with Alzheimer's disease.
