Assessing Protein Panels Can Indicate How They Work Within Networks To Control Complex Processes
The aim of this study was to characterize cellular processes that are altered in mammary endothelial cells (MECs) displaying reduced cyclin D1 activity in an effort to better understand the biological effects of pharmacological approaches to treat breast cancer. The use of an antibody array was instrumental in determining that MECs deficient in cyclin D1 activity triggered the activation of autophagy, and, together with cyclin D1-dependent kinase inactivation, increased senescence and reduced proliferation and transformation. Their results suggest that combined inhibition of autophagy and Cdk4/6 might be a promising therapeutic approach for treatment of breast cancer.
